Harvey Milk Day

The Stonewall Alliance Center will be hosting a free event celebrating Harvey Milk Day on Tuesday, May 22nd. Harvey Milk, the first openly gay city commissioner in California, championed a wide variety of issues while in office. The event will spotlight local LGBTQI+ community members sharing their thoughts on Harvey Milk's message, the mark he made on history, and the battles he fought that the community continues to fight to this day. The program will focus on the doors Harvey Milk fought to open in education and politics. Speakers will also reflect on the doors that are still closed as well as those that threaten to slam shut in our current sociopolitical climate.

Transgender Day Of Remembrance (TDOR)

On Monday, November 20 at 6:00 p.m., Stonewall Alliance of Chico will host Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR), a community-driven annual event dedicated to keeping the memory and meaning of those lost to violence against transgender and gender non-conforming people from being forgotten or overlooked. TDOR will be held in the Fellowship Hall of Chico’s Faith Lutheran Church at 667 E. 1st Ave. This event is free with complimentary refreshments and open to the public.

As in previous years, the event will feature a reading of the names of people lost to transphobic violence in 2017. This year, we will include a Celebration of Life for those dead in the U.S. as well- by highlighting their passions, relationships, contributions, and other facets of their important lives.

Event guests will be invited to leave tokens or notes to those in our memories at the collaborative altar, for which materials will be available. They can also contribute to the Encouragement Board, collaborated on by attendees of events spanning the Trans Week of Resilience (Hosted by CSUC and Butte College during the week prior to Nov. 20th)

TDOR is designed to be a safe space of support, acknowledgement, connection and growth for the transgender, non-binary and gender-expansive community and their allies
