Family and Friends Support
If your mom/dad, brother/sister, wife/girlfriend, husband/boyfriend or friend is struggling with you being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, here is a great organization for them and you to attend once a month here in Chico.
Parents, Families, & Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) is an international organization with over 500 chapters nationwide.
Our local Chico chapter meets on the first Monday of each month from 7:00-9:00 PM Stonewall Alliance Center, 358 East 6th Street (at Flume), Chico, CA 95928. We are located next to Rape Crisis Intervention at the corner of Cameo and Cohasset (next to Aldersgate Methodist Church).
Chico PFLAG was first established many years ago by Harlan and Lois Adams, parents of a gay son. Harlan Adams, after whom Harlan Adams Theatre was named, was a professor at Chico State and was an advocate for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and those who are transgender long before it became popular to do so.
Parents, Families, & Friends of Lesbians and Gays is open to everyone and anyone who has any relationship to the issue. The meetings are spent sharing with one another what it means to be the parent or family member of an LGBT child or to be LGBT oneself. This two hour, once a month meeting, is characterized by open sharing, courageous stories, tears at times, laughter as well.
