Out Education- Personal Enrichment Courses

Out Education- Personal Enrichment Courses
Out Education is the Stonewall Alliance Center’s personal enrichment program. It is designed to help gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people and straight allies by offering educational classes, workshops, seminars, panel discussions, and conferences. Out Ed may offer courses similar to others at different facilities, but ours are always presented in a safe, nurturing and LGBT-friendly environment.

Courses offered include legal, financial, health, adoption, relationship, & career. Classes on self-defense, gardening, home & business ownership, and history are being planned. In addition the annual COCO, Conference of Community Organizations is planned for early in the year. This conference allows leadership from organizations serving the GLBT community to come together, share information, and build a cooperative community calendar.

Class Terms & Conditions

REGISTRATION: If you wish to enroll in any class by phone or in-person you must do so before 5p.m. the day before the class is scheduled to begin.

CANCELLATION POLICY:  ALL SALES ARE FINAL AND THERE ARE NO REFUNDS.
No credit or refund will be given if you are unable to attend an entire course in which you have enrolled.  If Out Ed is forced to post-pone a scheduled session of a multi-part course due to instructor illness, unforeseen holiday conflict, scheduling error or for any other reason, the missed session will be rescheduled for another date. Out Ed will make a best effort to schedule an additional “make-up” session within a reasonable period of time. The date and time of any “make-up” sessions will be determined by instructors recommendation based on polling all effected students and space availability. If you are unable to attend the make-up session for any reason, you are not entitled to any further compensation. CANCELLATION REFUNDS: If any Out Ed course in which you have enrolled is subsequently cancelled for any reason by Out Ed, you will be given the option of receiving a refund or class credit. CLASS CREDIT: may be applied toward enrollment in any future Out Ed class.  If you paid your enrollment fee using CASH or a CHECK and opt for a refund, your refund will be paid in the full amount and will mailed to you in the form of Stonewall Alliance check. Refunded Checks may take as long as 45 days to be received. RESCHEDULED COURSES: If a course is rescheduled due to circumstances beyond Out Ed’s control (I.e. instructor illness, “acts of God”, etc.), your registration fee will automatically be credited toward the rescheduled course.  MARKETING: Out Ed has very limited means to market and advertise our programs. Therefore, Out Ed has requested personal contact information that may be used to promote future Out Ed or Stonewall Alliance Center programs. This information will not be sold, traded, shared or disclosed to any other person, organization or entity, not affiliated with the Center, for any reason. At the end of most classes, enrollees are asked to complete a class evaluation form. Once returned, these forms and the comments written on them become the property of the Stonewall Alliance Center and therefore maintains the right to use quotes or any other remarks written on these forms for marketing purposes. RECORDING POLICY:  Students are strictly prohibited from operating cameras, tape recorders, and/or video camcorders in all classes. Any courses that an instructor wishes to record in any of the aforementioned manners may do so with the expressed permission of all enrolled students.

Interested in Being an Out Education Instructor?
Thank you for your interest in the Stonewall Alliance Center’s Out Ed Program, personal enrichment program. It is designed to help gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people and straight allies by offering educational classes, workshops, seminars, panel discussions, and conferences. Out Ed provides the GLBT community with unprecedented access – at modest prices – to practical courses on personal growth and development, financial matters, business and career opportunities, health and healing, fitness, spirituality, relationships and computer technology.  All courses are GLBT-sensitive, or GLBT-specific, and are promoted on the Center’s website as well as through the Center’s quarterly publication, CenterStone. Although a number of Out Ed speakers and instructors graciously volunteer their services to our program and community, we offer modest compensation for instructor time, energy and expertise.  Standard compensation is 20% of gross revenue collected from class fees at the box office, provided the course is not cancelled.  Instructors conducting computer, acting or language courses may be compensated at a slightly higher rate.

Your expressed interest in joining our team of dynamic and talented Out Ed speakers and instructors, as well as to contributing your time, energy and expertise towards the goal of creating a happier and healthier GLBT community, is greatly appreciated.

After giving careful thought to the content and format of your proposed talk, workshop or course, please complete and submit an application form to our office for consideration.  All applications are carefully reviewed and considered for selection.  Be sure to include any additional training, schooling, volunteer work, or special abilities and skills that may be helpful in evaluating your application.  We hope to see you at the Out Ed.
