Parents & Family

If your someone you love, your mother or father, brother or sister, friend, partner, or spouse is struggling with your being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, here is a great organization. You and your family and friends may wish to attend this organization’s meetings held once a month here in Chico.

Parents, Families, & Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) is an international organization with over 500 chapters nationwide. Our local Chico chapter meets on the first Monday of each month from 7:00-9:00PM at the Stonewall Alliance Center, 358 East 6th Street (at Flume), Chico, CA 95928.

Chico PFLAG was first established many years ago by Harlen and Lois Adams, parents of a gay son. Harlen Adams, after whom the Harlen Adams Theatre was named, was a professor at Chico State and advocated for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and those who are transgender long before it became popular to do so.

Parents, Families, & Friends of Lesbians and Gays is open to everyone and anyone who has a relationship to the issue. The meetings are spent sharing with one another what it means to be the parent or family member of an LGBTIQQA child or to be LGBTIQQA oneself. This group meets for two hours, once a month. Open sharing, courageous stories, tears at times, and laughter characterize these meetings.
