Student Organizations

The Gay-Straight Alliance: The Gay-Straight Alliance hopes to create a safe haven where everyone has the freedom from judgment of expressing one’s self and ideas. We also hope to create awareness in our community about events and issues important to the Gay Community.

Local Organizations

Chico State Pride: Pride is designed to provide socialization and interaction between lesbian, gay, bisexual and straight-allied college students. The organization also functions as a political, social service, and educational body on campus.

Chico State Safe Zone: Safe Zone's purpose is to reduce homophobia and heterosexism on our campus and thereby make our campus a safer and freer environment for all members of our community.

Butte College Gender & Sexuality Alliance: We hope to create and safe haven where everyone has the freedom to express themselves and ideas without judgment. We also hope to create awareness in our community about events and issues in the LGBT*QI+ Community. Inclusive to all members of the community.

Chico Senior High School Gay-Straight Alliance: This club is committed to the fight against homophobia and discrimination on campus and in our community. (Advisor: Pennie Baxter)

Pleasant Valley High School Gay-Straight Alliance: The Pleasant Valley High School GSA is open to ALL students who are interested in celebrating diversity and equal rights for all. The GSA meets Thursdays during lunch in Room J-9.

Inspire School of Arts and Sciences: The Inspire School of Arts and Sciences is a school focused upon fostering the connection between students, teachers, and parents. The mission of this high school includes motivating a diverse body of students to explore their educational options and feel in charge of their future.

Fair View High School: Fair View High School is an alternative education high school located on East Avenue. This school provides an opportunity for those whom have struggled within a traditional school environment. The three components of education at this school include Show Up, Be Cool, and Take Care of Business.

Academy for Change: Academy for Change is the day school provided to Chico Unified School District students who for whatever reason were referred to the services provided at this school. Reasons for attending Academy for Change include expulsion, probation referral and a decision on the part of the school board.

C.O.R.E. Charter School: The C.O.R.E Charter School offers a personalized learning opportunity for those in attendance. Students can select what courses they can take and learning is a more independent endeavor than it is at a traditional high school.

SAYes! Stonewall Alliance Youth: SAYes! is Stonewall’s youth services organization. They have discussion groups for teens and twenty-somethings.

Regional and National Organizations

GLSEN, the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network: The leading national education organization focused on ensuring safe schools for all students. Established in 1990, GLSEN envisions a world in which every child learns to respect and accept all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. GLSEN seeks to develop school climates to become environments where difference is valued for the positive contribution it makes to creating a more vibrant and diverse community.

Gay-Straight Alliance Network: A youth leadership organization that connects school-based Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs) to each other and community resources through peer support, leadership development, and training.

LGBT*QI+ Campus Group Directory helps LGBT*QI+ student organizations share resources, information, and insight. The experience and advice each of you has will be a powerful aid to other queer student activists and campus groups as we fight for equality.
