Serving the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Community in Northern California Since 1990

SAY! (Youth Services)

The Stonewall Alliance Center has provided a youth drop-in group since 1994. Currently, we have two discussion groups, SAY Twenties and SAY Teens. Each group has there own page written by group members/leaders.

History:

In the early 1990's Butte County's Department of Drug & Alcohol, Youth Services received funding to study the needs of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender youth. A GLBT Youth Taskforce was created and the Stonewall Alliance Center was represented on its membership. Tools were developed for teaching school administrators, counselors and faculty about GLBT youth. Upon completion of the funded efforts the County asked the Stonewall Alliance to continue the work.

In 1994 we began providing the first safe space for GLBT youth and their allies in Butte County. In fourteen years we have served several hundred teens and young adults. These young people have made a lasting contribution to our community and to many other communities. One teenager from 1994 later became the Center's executive director for 2004-2006. Two SAY Twenties leaders currently serve on our Board of Directors.
