Serving the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Community in Northern California Since 1990

The message below was written by founding board member Eric Ruben.
My youth was spent in fear. Fear of rejection and fear of loneliness. And especially fear of being found out. My response was living in denial about my being gay.
It took some very special people in a very special place to change my life. I came to Chico for college at the age of 25. Residing in a closet of my own construction with thick walls and no windows, I made a single effort and found friends and Harlan & Lois Adams (local PFLAG leaders). I found community.
Two years later I sat in the living room of my apartment and shared a dream with six other people. The Stonewall Alliance Center was born of that dream. I found myself part of something important.
For eighteen years the dream of a community center has been reality. The Center has experienced successes and failures, and it has endured. This endurance is due to the commitment of a small number of people. It is something which must be shared by many more.
The Stonewall Alliance Center exists to serve the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community. This includes welcoming our straight allies and educating the general public. We believe, “Every individual has value as they are.”
The Center is not an ideal. Were it so we would have all the resources to provide for youth “coming out”, seniors needing support services, and assistance for individuals facing illness and disease.
We are all volunteers and we succeed or fail with your support. We need you to make a commitment to your community. I ask you to make a gift to the Center.
